Barcelona: Fanfarrai, 7 February 2016

Fanfarrai are a band from Barcelona that plays Balkan music (it's a broad term but it does the job). In fact they're one of several bands from Barcelona that play Balkan music, it's popular here. They're very good.

The band is based in RAI, a collectively-run arts space in the Born neighbourhood. These videos are from a concert in a civic centre called Palau Alòs. The building is a former theatre which was abandoned and then later squatted. In 2006 it was the scene of the beginning of a grave miscarriage of justice known as the 4F Case (Caso 4F). The film Ciutat Morta (Dead City) tells that story. These videos are a bit more cheerful than that documentary.

Fanfarrai are on Facebook here.
